Australia recognizes that persons with disability enjoy legal capacity on an equal basis with others in all aspects of life.
Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
The Convention follows decades of work by the United Nations to change attitudes and approaches to persons with disabilities.

Yet some governments (including Australia) refuse to enforce these policies, even though there has been a written agreement to abide by the terms presented.
